Lili Añel is an American singer-songwriter from New York, born in Spanish Harlem and raised in the South Bronx. As a child, she discovered her passion for music singing along to her mother’s Cuban, jazz and pop standard albums or joining the church choir. Singing brought a lot of joy to her being and definitely served to set up the path of a career in music.
Later, she studied music with legendary jazz singer Sheila Jordan and studied guitar at the Study Center (run by Paul Simon’s brother, Eddie), attended open-mic nights in Greenwich Village and began to get gigs. Subsequently she put a band together and continued performing, building up a reputation that took her to record her first CD “Laughed Last” in 1994.
Following CDs: “Hi-Octane Coffee” (2002), “Dream Again” (2007), “Life or death” (2008), “Every Second in Between” (2009 – Winning 3 NY Music Awards in 2010) and “I Can See Bliss From Here” (2013) were mostly self-released! But they established Lili as an outstanding artist that defies categorization and connects to the world with an intimate lyricism of her own coupled with a hybrid of jazz/soul/folk/pop music, a unique vocal style and a super-charged guitar!
Her last release (“I Can See Bliss From Here”), Lili teamed up with Dale Melton, a friend and fellow musician, is a cross-over break through recording that has opened the road to a broader audience and definitely “put her on the map”.
Backed with critical acclaim and more than a few great reviews, the six-foot tall singer-songwriter is now ready to share her music with Europe and Asia.
