Born in 1981 in Israel and raised there, guitarist and composer Yotam Silverstein was quickly recognized as a prodigy and began to play with many of the nation’s best jazz musicians.
Upon receiving a scholarship to the prestigious New School For Jazz in NYC, Yotam Silberstein moved to New York in 2005 and started to study with some of his childhood heroes. Pretty soon after, a lot of them called him for gigs. Yotam earned immediately his place among the jazz elite by collaborating with such stars as James Moody, Roy Hargrove, George Coleman, David Sanborn, Marcus Miller, Paquito D'Rivera, Christian McBride, John Patittuci, and many more amazing artists.
As a leader, he has recorded five albums: ‘The arrival’ (2004), ‘Next Page’ (2009), ‘Resonance’ (2010), Brasil (2011) and last but not least the new ‘The Village’ (January 2017), his most fully realized recording to date. The title track has a double meaning: it refers to Greenwich Village, his artistic home for the past 10 years but also to the fact than Internet and social media have enabled access to different style of music and musicians all over the world!
He also participated to Monty Alexander’s Grammy-nominated ‘Harlem-Kingston Express Live’ (2011), to Marcus Miller ‘Time and the River’ (2015) and to John Patitucci ‘Irmaos de Fe (2016). In addition, Yotam has toured as a leader in major Clubs in USA, Europe, Asia and South America.
As artistically gifted as he is technically proficient, Silberstein is forging his own path with skills and style. On top of his deep and solid foundation in jazz and blues, he makes conscious efforts to stretch into other musical territories: Israeli music, Arabic influences, flamenco, baiäo, samba, milonga creating one musical village with a unique and coherent voice through his writing and arranging!
Always looking for the right note rather than the show, with agility, finesse, relaxation and a tremendous sense of improvisation, he is undoubtedly a rising star to be watched!
Yotam just released his new CD « The Village » which has received very good reviews all over the world.
He is also very happy and honored to be part of the great John Patitucci’s new Album “Irmaos De Fe” that will be out in February 2017 on Newvelle Records. Check out here this little teaser from the studio.
